$22bn Boeing order approved at Ryanair shareholder meeting

FILE IRELAND RYANAIR EARNINGS

In what must have been the fastest shareholder meeting ever held, a “gamechanger” deal worth $22bn for the purchase of new Boeing aircraft has been approved.

The vote has passed in under a minute.

The deal, which includes 100 firm and 100 options, was approved by 99.93pc of shareholders, ahead of the extraordinary general meeting in Dublin today.

The new aircraft will mean more legroom for Ryanair passengers as well as reduced fuel consumption for the airline.

These new machines will expand Ryanair’s fleet to approximately 520 aircraft by 2024, and will create an estimated 10,000 new jobs for pilots, cabin crew and engineers in Europe. The vastly improved fleet is expected to enable Ryanair’s traffic to surpass 150m per annum.
