6,000 homes left without power as storms hit the midlands

ESB Networks say their teams are out trying to restore power to all areas

The sunny spell came to a swift end for many as over 6,000 homes and businesses were left without power this afternoon. Thunder and lightning storms swooped across the midlands, bringing an end to a bank holiday weekend of fabulous weather.

Mét Eireann put out a Status Orange for much of the country as thunder storms were expected. The storms of heavy thundery downpowers were expected across Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath and Meath. Localised flooding may also occur, particularly across the midlands and northwest

ESB Networks say their teams are out trying to restore power to all areas and hope to do so within the next few hours.
