A 17 month old toddler from northern Vermont in the US is understood to have found a loaded handgun in her nappy bag at a daycare centre, police have said.
The grandmother of the toddler who is believed to be a girl has said she forgot the weapon was in the bag when she dropped the young girl off at the daycare unit in Beebe Plain, officers said.
The owner of the daycare centre’s reportedly told the authorities that the child found the gun in the bag, took it out and started walking around with it. Staff working at the daycare centre are understood to have notified her parents and the Vermont Department for Children and Families.
A member of staff told police that the young girls grandmother had placed the handgun in the bag as she was leaving the house in a hurry. Luckily a safety lock strap prevented the gun from being fired. An anonymous caller reported the incident to the police.
