The Department of Foreign Affairs have sadly confirmed that one Irishman has been killed, whilst another remains missing following a kayaking accident in Ecuador.
In an announcement made over the weekend the department confirmed that a 19 year old man was sadly killed in the incident, whilst a 26 year old is currently still missing.
According to Ecuadorian state media it is believed the two men were involved in an accident after their boat got into difficulty during a group expedition on the River Abanico, in the Morona Santiago province.
It is understood the 19 year old mam was tragically killed during the incident which occurred due to rising water levels on the river, whilst three others including a 26 year old Irishman went missing during the incident which occurred on Saturday afternoon.
The Department of Foreign Affairs say they are currently in liason with Ecuadorian authorities, they also say they provided counselling assistance for both families.
