A 31 year old disabled man who was victim of an vicious and unprovoked attack by a teenage gang, is understood to be slowly regaining his confidence according to his father.

The news comes after Mr Deaton an automotive machinery fanatic  had been invited to visit the headquarters of construction equipment manufactureer JCB. Mr Deaton was the victim of disgraceful and unprovoked assault carried out by ruthless thugs in Fairview last month after he stood to watch a JCB carry out work on a construction site. Mr Deaton who is believed to have an intellectual disability, was disgracefullly set upon by an unidentified teenage gang, who threatened to set him on fire, the gang also recorded the horrific  incident which left him with serious head injuries.

Mr Deaton’s father Damien Deaton aged 65 told the Irish Independent that Paul is “slowly but surely” getting himself back together. Mr Deaton’s father went onto say: “He’s still not leaving the area, but he stands on the corner at the end of our street and watches the busses pass.” “Hopefully he’ll build up his confidence soon. He’s going back to work. “It took years to build him up to going out.”

Mr Deaton told the paper of how his son is fascinated with the Dart, Luas, diggers and Dublin Bus. After hearing of the horrific attack JCB decided to invite Paul to visit the ECI JCB Headquarters in Dublin, where he got to experience first hand several pieces of machinery, which included the 3CX Backhoe Loader as well as 86c Midi Excavator. Paul’s father spoke of how delighted his son was visiting the facility saying: “Paul was chuffed in the JCBs,” “He got in to all the different types, a small digger and a JCB tractor. “There was a guy in the JCB with him who instructed him what to do, and he was working the boom at the back that digs. Mr Deaton added: “He enjoyed it immensely. He was chuffed. They gave him a jacket, a polo shirt and a cap and some pens.”

The showing of goodwill and support didn’t stop there however as Paul and his family have also been offered a holiday in Trabolgan, Co Cork, by Lions Club charity who raised funds for the trip.
