Today, March 21st celebrates World Down Syndrome Day.

It’s a special day for very special people who, according to the official World Down Syndrome website celebretes:
“People with Down syndrome who can and do bring so much to the community, wherever they live around the world, when given the opportunity.”

One reader from Co. Meath who has a child that has Down Syndrome told The Liberal:
“Down Syndrome is not a disability, it’s the ability to show the world what special and unique talents this community has by showing the world the endless love they have. Most people who have Down Syndrome, including my son, are capable of living full lives and this is their day to celebrate all their vibrant lives”, she said.

“Unfortunately however, in the UK 90% of unborn babies who are diagnosed with Down Syndrome are aborted. It’s even higher in Iceland and that is a shockingly sad reality. It’s the sole reason why I’ll be voting to save the Eighth Amendment as many unborn Irish babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome will be aborted if the Eighth Amendment is repealed”.
