There could be some glimmer of hope for thousands of Cystic Fibrosis patients nationwide in the future, after the Health Minister Simon Harris has revealed he will the possibility of introducing the new potentially life saving drug Orkambi, at a meeting in Lisbon later today.
Minister Harris’s u-turn regarding talks come after he and the Government have come under strong pressure ti make the drug available to many Cystic Fibrosis sufferers nationwide.
Although any agreement is some way off, the minister saud he is willing to discuss all possibilities in order to make the drug available. As it currently stands the HSE has refused to sanction Orkambi due to extremely high cost of €150,000 a year per patient for it.
