A hero laid to rest: Hundreds turn out in Dublin to mourn the passing of Capt Dara Fitzpatrick

The only consolation to the hundreds attending Capt Dara Fitzpatrick’s funeral was that she died a hero.

Her funeral took place in St Patrick’s Church in Glencullen, Co Dublin where the Taoiseach, President and Minister for Transport were all in attendance.

The funeral arrived at 11am and was met by an honour guard from the Coast Guard and other rescue services while hundreds lined the streets.

Captain Fitpatrick’s parents, four siblings, her young son Fionn, and other family members accompanied the coffin into the church.

Three other crew members of Rescue 116 are still missing off the coast of Mayo where the helicopter tragically went off radar on Monday.
