“A lot more needs to be done” – homeless charities call on the Government to intervene as homelessness reaches an all time high

There is growing concern amongst Homeless charities today after new figures have revealed that homelessness has reached an all time high.

The latest figures have found that there were 7,167 people homeless in the month of January, which marks a rise of twenty from the previous month.

The alarming figures has once again led to a number of homeless charities to call on the Government to intervene and resolve the crisis.

Speaking last night Mike Allen of Focus Ireland told reporters that a lot more needs to be done, Mr Allen further explained: “Focus Ireland figures show that every five hours during January a child lost their home.”

“That’s one of the highest figures of home-loss we’ve ever seen.”

“It really emphasises that the government, if they’re going to solve this problem, have to do much more to prevent individuals and families losing their homes.”
