A nation once again? Sinn Fein call for United Ireland referendum, PM May says she is not confident NI would vote to remain in UK

Sinn Fein have called for a referendum on the issue of partition in the wake of repeal.

The party’s deputy leader and the Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, Michelle O’Neil, said that this referendum has brought the prospect of a border ball back to the fore.

Under the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, which ended the bulk of violence of the troubles, the British and Irish governments recognised the right of the citizens of Northern Ireland to determine their constitutional status.

In a recent meeting with members of her party UK Prime Minister Theresa May said that she is not fully confident that Northern Ireland would vote to remain a part of the UK.
