A number of TD’s have voiced their disapproval regarding the recent changes to the National Lottery. The news comes after the National Lottery to decided to higher their prices along with adding two extra numbers to the lottery draw .

Under the new proposal the price for two lines is going up from €3 to €4, whilst the the Lotto Plus option will now cost €5 per play. The new rules will also see the number of number balls rising from 45 to 47. The move has angered one TD Stephen Donnelly of the Social Democrats who said: “I’m not happy. The price should be brought back down and the probability of winning be brought back up.”

Meanwhile the Fianna Fáil party also voiced their disapproval regarding the price hike. The party blame the hike on the government after they decided to privatise the National Lottery. That announcement came from the party’s Spokesperson on Public Expenditure Seán Fleming who claimed the unfair price hikes were not needed. Mr Fleming said: “It wasn’t necessary to actually happen because you can increase the Lottery income by further promotion of the lottery. “There’s a lot of people regular players but there’s a lot of people who only come in when there’s a big prize. “Some people are not even fully tuned in to the National Lottery in the first place.

Mr Fleming added: “So they could have got maybe more people paying and playing and contributing and you might not of had a price hike if they had actually done that.”
