The Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar has just kicked jobseekers when they were. Not only did Varadkar fully back up today’s budget, he has claimed jobseekers living at home with their parents are given too much money at €188 a week.

Mr Varadkar said he thinks giving people who live at home with their parents, particular teenagers such “a large amount of money” isn’t good for them. Varadkar’s comments come after he refused to reverse the cuts in the allowance.

The Minister said: “I don’t think somebody who is 18 or 19, many of whom are living at home with their parents, should be getting €188 a week. I don’t think that’s good for them.”

Varadkar is lined up to replace Enda Kenny, that’s if the Taoiseach ever retires of course, and is shaping up to be as bad if not worse than Kenny if this is a sign of things to come.
