Repeal the 8th campaigners are said to be furious at being forced to return George Soros’ €23,000 in funding.

The Abortion Rights Campaign confirmed they have been forced to return €23,000 given to them by a US-based foundation led by the billionaire George Soros.

They were forced to give the money back following letters from the Republic’s Standards In Public Office Commission, also known as SIPO.

The Irish Catholic newspaper reported that the Abortion Rights Campaign gave the money back following warnings from the political ethics watchdog that the donation would be reported to the gardaí if the ARC persisted in rejecting its requests.

According to RTE news, SIPO said “that Irish law prohibits donations of over €100 for domestic political purposes from a number of sources including any organisation which fails to keep an office on this island from which to direct a principal activity.”
