Absolute disgrace: Only 19 TD’s attend Dáil debate to discuss homelessness

In what can only be described as an absolute disgrace only 19 standing TD’s convened in the Dáil this morning to discuss the issue of homelessness and child homelessness in Ireland .

The poor turnout which ultimately shows a poor reflection when comes to dealing with the issue will be surely criticised in the coming days.

During the debate which seen three representatives from Fine Gael and six from Fianna Fáil, the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy received the brunt of the criticism with opposition TD’s calling for more to be done.

The debate which also seen one representative from the Labour Party and three from Sinn Féin, heard statements from TD’s who have experienced the crisis at first hand on a daily basis.

Many have said they see numerous homeless people on the nations streets on a daily basis which is totally unacceptable in modern day Ireland.

Although Mr Murphy said everyone sleeping rough this Christmas will be given a bed and much needed shelter, he did admit that more needs to be done throughout the year and not only at Christmas time.

The debate came after latest figures showed almost 8,300 people are currently homeless in Ireland with 799 of those being young children.
