Sadness, shock and anger have been expressed this afternoon by locals in Drogheda, County Louth after a Today FM ad truck smashed straight into St Laurence’s Barbican Gate (officially known as The Moneymore Gate) at the top Laurence’s St in the town.
Witnesses watched in disbelief as the driver drove from the Chord Rd direction and slammed into the 800-yr-old nationally known gate.
The Today FM ad truck actually briefly got stuck under the gate before the driver caused a traffic jam by reversing down towards Constitution Hill.
Drogheda local Dickie “The Gardener” Kierans said:
“In all my time, I have never witnessed such an atrocious act on our beloved Laurence’s Gate. It was just terrible watching the driver not give a damn about its historic and cultural value and smash the big Today FM sign into the gate.”
“I will never listen to Today FM again as a result and I call on the radio station to make a full apology to the town as a result of this despicable act.”
