Absolutely Nuts: French supermarket chain’s decision to sell Nutella at cut cost backfires as it leads to violent and chaotic scenes

There were chaotic scenes in France today as a leading supermarket chain’s decision to slash the price of Nutella led to violent scenes at a number of its stores.

The rather bizarre incident occurred after the Intermarche supermarket chain decided to cut the cost of the popular spread by 70% in a sales promotion.

However in a bid to boost sales and increase the number of customer’s entering it’s stores, the supermarket chain soon regretted their decision as the cut price whole nut spread caused violent scenes at stores in central France that can only be described as shocking.

The incident which has since become global news seen a number of eyewitnesses take to social media to voice their shock and disgust at what unfolded before them.

One eyewitness told AFP News agency, “It was crazy there were people everywhere knocking one another over trying to get as much Nutella as they possibly could.”

Following the scenes which included the odd scuffle between the Nutella crazed customers, Intermarche issued a statement apologising to its customers saying they were “surprised” by the sheer demand.

It is thought the incidents occurred after the supermarket chain decided to sell the world-renowned spread for €1.41 instead of its usual price of €4.50.
