The veteran and disgraced actor Bill Cosby has been handed a prison of between 3 to 10 years after he was found guilty of a sexually assaulting a woman back in 2004.
Cosby who appeared on American television for a number of years was handed the sentence after he was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand.
The actor who was described as a sexually violent predator in court was informed that he will have to serve his sentence in Pennsylvania state prison even though his defence attorney argued for house arrest.
Cosby, 81, will also be placed on the sex offenders register and will undergo counselling for the rest of his life.
The veteran actor becomes the first celebrity of the #MeToo era to be convicted after he was found guilty last April.
It is understood Cosby’s defence argued for house arrest due to his age and ongoing health problems.
However the prosecution requested that the actor be given a prison sentence as he could potentially still be considered a threat to women.
Reports in the US say that the actor intends to appeal his conviction.
