AIB issues apology to its customers after documents containing personal information about 550 customers is handed in by a member of the public

AIB have confirmed that missing documents which contained the details of approximately 550 customers have been found by a member of the public.

The banks announcement comes after reports earlier this month discovered that the personal documents were lost by a member of staff in a car park in Galway city centre on the 31st of August.

It is thought the documents contained the Names and private detail belonging to customers.

Although initially AIB had confirmed the material had been lost, they have now moved to reassure customers that the documents have been recovered after a concerned member of the public handed them in to a business in Galway City.

AIB say they recently recovered the documents after the business owner contacted them after discovering there importance when he seen recent media reports about the lost files.

Speaking about the recovery AIB have said they will issue a written apology to those affected in the coming days ahead.
