A school in Co Kerry has gained the support of parents of children attending the school in a bid to ban pupils from using smartphones outside of school hours.
The remarkable move which has been heavily backed parents, comes after the school became concerned about the level of inappropriate activity between students using the phones.
According to RTE News, the school in question St Brendan’s National School in Blennerville, Tralee, introduced the ban after they become concerned about the apps children were accessing whilst they weren’t in school.
Although the school already bans the use of smartphones amongst students during school hours, the school’s principal requested the approval from parents to ban pupils from using their phones outside of school hours.
It is understood that parents have agreed to an initial 11-week pilot programme after they were informed about the activities of the 11 and 12 year old students in a messaging group.
