Alternative bus service to palliate effects of Luas drivers strike described as “scab labour”

Amidst potential transport chaos threatening to hamper the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the capital, the company operating the Luas service, Transdev, announced earlier today that a bus service will operate from park and rides sites in an effort to minimize the effects of the strike.

The buses will run directly to and from the city centre, with a 10-min frequency.

However, the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) has this evening referred to such service as “scab labour”.

NBRU representatives wrote to Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe, berating the use of ‘scab labour to break a legitimate dispute.’

Meanwhile, Siptu announced four additional days of industrial action, on 2, 3, 23 and 24 April.

The row continues.
