A suspicious item was found in the Roxboro area of the city early this morning.
The gardai were promptly notified and they then alerted the bomb disposal unit.
An examination of both the suspicious item and the surrounding area is being carried out at present.
This incident occurred at 9am this morning.
Gardai have said that the item in question is linked to dissident republicans.
