An Post have confirmed that a total of 159 post offices will close across the country as part of an agreement with the Irish Postmasters Union.
Under the new agreement a total of 159 postmasters have agreed to take a voluntary retirement which was submitted by An Post.
An Post say the closing post offices are in areas that have a population less than 500 people.
It is understood that all post offices to be closed are located within a 15km radius of another post office.
An Post say the plans are part of a new scheme that is aimed at reducing costs at the company.
