Early exit polls appear to confirm that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is set to emerge victorious on today’s elections, while a far-right party is on course to have representation in the German Government chamber for the first time.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is predicted to gain seats inside the Bundestag (German national parliament), the first time in 60 years that a political organization with far-right ideology is represented there.
Ms. Merkel’s party is not likely to obtain a clear majority, which means that some political alliances will have to be formed.
