Anti EU party, UKIP secure first British MP seat

Douglas Carswell has become the first ever UKIP MP.

He was elected in the Clacton
by-election. Mr Carswell garnered 21,113 votes, 60% of the electorate.

In his victory speech Mr Carswell said: “I will not let you down.”

UKIP stands for UK Independence Party, and their main philosophy is that they want the UK out of Europe.

Party leader, Nigel Farage said “it’s an incredible result for UKIP,.but it’s just the beginning.”
