The offices of the department of Social Protection are located in Gandon House on Amien Street in Dublin’s city centre.

Director of Inner City Helping the Homeless Anthony Flynn has voiced his disgust at this new development.

“This is the department that is supposed to look afetr our vulnerable people”

Describing the anti-homeless bars as the first example of the their kind in Ireland, Mr Flynn stated:

“This is the most unsympathetic way of dealing with the homeless crisis, it’s a “not in my doorstep attitude” and we certainly condemn it. The department has shown a real lack of consideration and sympathy and I would like to hear their reasons”

There has been an overwhelmingly negative response to these anti-homeless bars already.

It appears that the bars are placed strategically to deter people from sitting or lying on the window ledges.

Offense to these anti-homeless bars has also been reported in the UK, namely London where most of these bars have been placed.
