A newspaper letter has gone viral after it emerged Drogheda’s 94-yr-old Joseph Gibbons was assisted by a friendly helpful young woman.
Mr Gibbons had described how he was recently bereaved and how it was his first time doing grocery shopping in 65 years since his beloved wife sadly passed away last month.
Joseph said:
“I was at the self-service check out and I seemed to be struggling and not too sure on how it worked, since my wife always did the shopping”.
I felt a kind hand on my shoulder and as I turned around there was the most beautiful girl. She had long wavy blonde hair and wearing all black. She said she was on her lunch break, that she was in no rush and was happty to help me. She told me her name was Rebecca.”
The 20-something-yr-old asked the elderly gentleman if he needed a hand doing his shopping and proceeded to do all the man’s shopping for him.
Joseph continued:
“It seems like a small gesture, but it made my day and I just want to find her and thank her properly. She didn’t know what a devastating time I’ve been going through or what I had going on that day and she wanted to help a 94-yr-old man just out of the goodness of her heart and wasn’t looking for anything in return”.
