It’s the one day of the year that the majority of us get to spend with our family and friends – but it’s not the case for everyone.
There’s a list of people who have to or indeed choose to work on this special day.
We all know that doctors and nurses and all hospital staff keep our medical facilities going. We know that gardai are there for us to call, likewise the fire brigade – but how about these people?
The charity worker – thousands of people are dishing out dinners to less fortunate people today. They also visit the elderly and housebound.
Taxi drivers – sometimes people need a lift from one house to another and someone needs to be designated Dessie!
Child services – this goes without saying considering Childline received over 1,000 calls last year on Christmas Day.
Animal services – some great people dedicate their time to helping house animals, mind animals, care for and take animals in. They’re there to help out on Christmas Day.
Petrol Station Attendants – Going to Mass? Low on juice? Someone has to man the pumps, especially if Santy forgot to bring batteries!
