Army called in as water crisis deepens in the north east

A detachment from the Defence Forces is on its way to the north east, as the crisis over the burst pipe in Co. Louth deepens.

The 21-strong contingent will help coordinate the distribution to water across the worst affected areas.

Residents have now been told that they probably won’t see their water service restored until the weekend.

People have been forced to queue for extended periods of time to collect water from tankers stationed in the areas affected. Residents have been recommended to boil this water, as its quality cannot be guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Irish politicians enjoying their hyper-extended holiday period are nowhere to be seen.
