Asteroid hurtling towards Earth at over 23,000 mph will give our planet a near miss

Asteroid 2017 VR12 is currently hurtling towards Earth at the dizzying speed of over 23,000 mph.

It is roughly the size of the Golden Gate bridge, and it’s set to whizz past Earth tomorrow morning at just 1.4m km away.

But because it’s going to fly by us at such close range (in stellar terms), 2017 VR12 is deemed to be a ‘hazardous’ object.

If the rock were to strike Earth dead on, the consequences would be dire indeed.

Alas, not this time. Earthlings will live to fight another day.
