Australian police foil terror plot by arresting a man who planned to carry out a mass shooting on New Years Eve 




Police in the Australian city of Melbourne have confirmed that they have foiled a potential terrorist attack after they arrested a man who was allegedly planing an attack on New Years Eve.

The worrying revelation comes after police authorities arrested the man believed to be an Australian national but of Somalian decsent, when they found material at his home.

Police authorities say they also discovered that the man who has been tracked since the beginning of this year had been repeatedly searching online for information on how to orchestrate and carry out a mass shooting attack.

They also say the man who is understood to be an ISIS sympathiser accesed an Al Qaeda handbook which outlined details on how such attacks were carried out in the past.

It is understood the man was arrested when he attempted to buy an automatic rifle which would have most likely been used to carry out the attack. 

The man is expected to appear in Melbourne magistrates court later today where he will be officially charged.
