The historic French City of Nantes has been wracked by over two days of violent riots after police shot and killed a 22-year-old Aboubakar Fofana.
Fofana was shot after he attempted to flee police checking documents and shortly after masked rioters took the streets throwing Molotov cocktails, hurling missiles at police and destroying cars Sputnik News reports.
At least 11 people have been detained and hundreds of riot police are deployed in the city and engaged in pitched battles with dozens of rioters throughout the early hours of Thursday morning the UK’s Express reports.
The police in Nantes have insisted that a full, transparent investigation will take place and the country’s Justice Minister has called for the rule of law to be respected.
