Bad news for over 150,000 commuters as staff at Irish Rail confirm they will hold a series of work stoppages throughout November and December




There was bad news for commuters today as the unions representing staff at Irish Rail have confirmed they are to holds serious of work stoppages throughout November and December in a bid to force through better pay and conditions at the company.

According to RTE News the planned stoppages which will affect over 150,000 passengers will occur​ on November 1, 7, 14 and 23rd whilst there will also be another stoppage on December 8th.

The news of the impending strike action comes after talks between management and union chiefs brokedown at Workplace Relations Commission on Thursday.

It is believed that members of both the NBRU and SIPTU rejected Irish Rail’s latest pay proposal of an 1.75% increase for the year 2018.

Speaking about the situation a spokesperson representing staff said the latest offer falls well short of what our members have requested and the mediocre package offered by Irish Rail will not be accepted under any circumstances.

However they did say they are willing to re-enter negotiations with the company but they are only willing to do so if Irish Rail are willing to offer an improved deal which is closer to what they have requested.
