Belfast bakery Ashers came under fire for refusing to bake a cake with a pro-gay slogan on it.
Judges ruled that the company’s refusal to bake the cake was unlawful, a ruling that Ashers Baking Company wish to appeal. They were found guilty of discrimination.
The Christians bakers stated that baking the cake with the slogan would go against their conscience.
In 2014 the cake had been ordered by LGBT activist Gareth Lee.
Barrister David Scoffield QC stated to the court of three senior judges that the bakers were not “contractually obliged” to bake the cake.
This appeal has been taking place at the Court of Appeal in Belfast.
