Batches of medication used for treating high blood pressure and heart failure recalled due to fears of contamination

The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) has announced the recall of medicines containing the active ingredient valsartan, after possible contamination was detected at source.

The medications are manufactured at a Chinese facility.

The HPRA advises patients who regularly take this medicine to not stop taking it all of a sudden, and contact their pharmacist instead.

The recall may affect up to 50,000 patients in Ireland alone.
