As the country wakes up this morning, Met Eireann reissue a status orange weather warning for fear of flooding, particular in and around the river Shannon.
Fears of 3 feet of expected rainfall will burst the banks in Athlone and bring scenes reminiscent of those horrific days of 2009.
Meanwhile motorists are asked to take extra care this morning after 8 inches of water fell overnight in many places. Flash floods are expected in low lying areas with many places experiencing low lying water on B roads.
Already minor accidents are being reported up and down the country with bad visibility playing a major part in most.
The inclement weather is expected to last until midnight Monday night – with an easing overnight tonight and tomorrow.
