All emergency services and road authorities have issued a stern warning this morning to all motorists especially to take it very slow.
Last night the Gardai asked for motorists to be extra vigilant as temperatures are plunging into freefall over the weekend.
The AA’s Adrian Harmon is advising road users to be prepared.
Harmon said: “Met Eireann has forecast a drop in temperatures over the coming days. Widespread frost and ice is likely.
“At the moment we are experiencing intermittent sleet and snow showers around the country, particularly in parts of the Midlands. This can lead to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces.
“Bear that in mind if you’re on the roads today.”
They’ve appealed for social media sharing of this clear message; please be extra careful, leave earlier and please slow down.
