The Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has ruled out the idea of housing the city’s homeless families on rented cruise ships.
Mr Murphy said the idea which was proposed by Dublin City Council was not suitable and better options are currently being explored.
The Housing Minister’s comments come after it was previously reported that the city council were considering renting disused cruise liners to house homeless people.
The proposal which has been heavily criticised by homeless campaigners was reportedly mooted as temporary measure in order to alleviate the crisis.
However it is understood that Mr Murphy has no intention of entertaining the idea which has been described as outrageous and unfeasible by homeless campaigners and fellow TD’s.
