Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty has admitted that as many as 50 Public bodies will been able to access the personal information stored on the Public Service Card which is set to become a necessity for a large portion of the population, including those who need to avail of social welfare.
The Minister has insisted that the information will be stored safely and is secured with encryption. However recent revelations in Sweden, where the government leaked the personal date of nearly all its citizens in 2015, have raised concerns about the security of the information.
Questions have also been raised over the legality of making the PSC compulsory.
