Dublin City Council have announced that cigarette butts amount to at least 60% of street litter in the capital, and the problem is getting worse.
They’ve launched a new campaign called “Bin the Butt” aimed at smokers to put their finished cigarettes into bin dispensers and not throw them on the ground.
Chewing gum is also a big problem but beverage holders, such as coffee cups are the main source of food waste being thrown on the streets.
The new campaign is aimed at changing the public’s attitude towards waste and bin usage.
