Brace for impact: Storm Aileen on course to strike Ireland today -southern half of the country will fare the worst




Storm season kicks off in style today, with Aileen first in line to batter Ireland with strong winds and heavy rain.

The national forecaster says that the southern half of the country will be the most affected by Aileen’s windy wrath, while northern counties will see the most rain.

Winds up to 110km/h are predicted to lash southern counties throughout the evening and into tonight, though the storm will be mercifully brief this time.

Met Eireann Met Eireann have issued a status yellow warning for Dublin, Wexford, Wicklow, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford ahead of the severe weather.
