The well known and well liked Sean Haughey TD has come out firmly against repealing the Eighth Amendment.
The Eighth Amendment is the amendment that states in the Constitution that an unborn baby has an equal right to life as its mother.
Mr Haughey was born with a cleft lip. It’s a minor disability where the top lip contains an opening to the nose, similar to a cleft palate where the roof of the mouth contains an opening into the nose.
The Fianna Fail TD said that the number of abortions for disabilities such as a cleft lip and Down Syndrome had tripled in the UK and that he and many others believe that the exact same thing would happen here if the Eighth Amendment was repealed.
Haughey is one of the latest Fianna Fail TDs to come out against their floundering leader Micheal Martin in his support for abortion on demand up to 3 months.
