33-yr-old Lorraine Whyman married 26-yr-old Jon Callahan in a private, moving ceremony in Manchester, followed by another here in Ireland.

Lorraine was diagnosed with breast cancer last May. She underwent surgery and months of gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but the aggressive cancer spread to her brain and doctors have now very sadly given the brave new bride two years to live.

Lorraine lives in Manchester, and she said: “The wedding meant a lot to me. I wanted everyone to know that’s the person I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. If there was a cure tomorrow we’d still be married 60 years from now – that’s why we did it.”

“It was a really nice, intimate ceremony. There were a few tears but we really enjoyed it. There was no mention of anyone being ill, it was a normal wedding and that’s what we wanted.”“It’s all happened quite quickly but we didn’t want a long engagement. We just wanted to be married and face whatever comes next together.”“We might have had to push things forward, because we don’t have that time, but we got married because we love each other very much and we’re going to be together no matter what.”

Lorraine’s mother died of ovarian cancer at 37 and her aunt survived breast cancer.

She said: “I know what’s going to happen, I’ve seen it happen. But we just have to enjoy whatever time we have left.”
