Brave: Norah Casey gave a very emotional interview about the beatings her first husband gave her

In what can only be described as a brave and candid interview on Friday night’s Late Late Show, broadcaster Norah Casey spoke about the domestic abuse her first husband Peter gave her.

The former Dragon’s Den investor spoke about meeting her first husband Peter in London when she was in her 20s.

She told how Peter initially smashed her head off the side of his car. He’d then shower her with gifts to make up to her.

From there it only just progressed leading to Norah receiving a tremendous beating in their house so badly that she ended up with a broken jaw, broken ribs, smashing eyes and breathing issues.

Asked by Ryan Tubridy why she didn’t leave, she simply replied “it’s very complicated, there’s more to it than people think”. She said she felt ashamed.

Around 6 months after that, Norah said that she got one last “clatter” off him near her parents and she had to leave. Norah eventually told her mother and that was that, she told her “I can’t take it anymore, I’ve had a terrible time with him”.

She woke up at 4am one morning, told Peter she was leaving him and drove away with one small bag. She stayed in the IBIS hotel in Heathrow for £24 a night to try and start rebuilding her life from there.

“I survived it”, Norah said. For 9 years she never told anyone, she said she only told her brothers over the past week what happened.

Norah said that men are abused too and both women and men should try and have the strength and stand up and tell someone, anyone, what’s going on.
