An earthquake measuring the magnitude of 5.8 has struck off northern California in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) has confirmed.
A second earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale struck shortly after the first but this time much closer to shore, the USGS said.
Both quakes struck west of the California town of Petrolia and were very shallow, amplifying their effects.
