A major investigation is underway after a garda allegedly shot a member of the traveller community in front of his heavily pregnant wife.
It’s understood that a handgun registered to the gardai and under the control of a detective was fired in Co. Longford.
It is understood that the incident happened in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, at around 5pm this afternoon. An Alsatian dog is believed to have been killed during the same incident.
The man who was shot is said to be known to gardai, a member of the travelling community and has sustained serious injuries to his right foot.
It’s not yet known as to what led the garda to allegedly shoot the man.
