The national weather forecaster, Met Eireann has issued a status orange weather warning for Leinster and parts of Munster.
The warning is nwo in effect for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath and Waterford, and has been prolonged until at least midday today, Sunday.
Scattered heavy snow showers overnight have left dangerous driving conditions this morning and further accumulations of snow are expected over the coming hours.
The forecaster has also issued a Status Yellow snow-ice warning for the rest of the country with wind chill and ice expected across the country.
Snow showers will persist throughout the day with tomorrow expected to be cold but dry.
