Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital is NOT getting its name changed after the good people of County Louth took a stand and demanded that Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital keeps its name as it is.
Proposals were afoot to have the hospital’s name changed as allegedly some people working in the hospital claimed that Our Lady Of Lourdes could offend some people being treated and working in the hospital because of the Catholic connotations associated with the name of the hospital reverting back to Lourdes in the South of France where Our Lady appeared in 1958.
It was then on the agenda to have the name of the hospital changed in the first quarter of 2019 to “Louth Regional Hospital” but thankfully this ridiculous money and time-wasting idea has been scrapped.
Thousands of people walked on various protests from the centre of Drogheda on West St to the entrance of Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital emphasising the fact that they didn’t want the hospital’s name changed.
Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital was partly built by the people of Drogheda along with Mother Mary and the Medical Missionaries who put their heart and soul into making the hospital a much-loved landmark in the town.
