Horrific news this afternoon as one member of the Irish Coast Guard has been confirmed dead after a rescue mission went wrong in Co. Clare.
A vessel overturned during a search operation near Kilkee, Co. Clare. Three members of the Irish Coast Guard were involved in the rescue mission at the time and sketchy information claims that the overturned vessel claimed the life of a female coast guard with two more in serious condition.
During a heavy swell, the inflatable boat the three were travelling on overturned while they were searching a missing man from the Lisseycasey area of the county.
The female coastal officer was unconscious upon rescue, and was shortly afterwards pronounced dead. The two other crew members have been rushed to hospital in Limerick.
