The leader of the Labour Party in the UK Jeremy Corbyn, has pledged his support for a referendum to be held on the possibility of an united Ireland.
Speaking to Andrew Neill on BBC in the wake of the UK’s triggering of article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, the British politician said he is fully behind the people of Northern Ireland if they choose to hold a referendum on rejoining Ireland.
Mr Corbin told the host: “That’s up to the people of Northern Ireland to decide. If the Northern Ireland Assembly wants to have one then they should be allowed to.“
The British MP also said the people of Ireland should be able to pass freely across the border without constraint.
