Budget 2019: Government to issue €2.3bn in funding to build more affordable housing and alleviate the current homeless crisis




The Government have confirmed that it will allocate a total of €2.3bn for housing in 2019.

Announcing the big spend this afternoon, the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe confirmed that the vast majority of the funding will be allocated to provide affordable social housing.

Mr Donohoe revealed that a total of €1.25bn will be issued in 2019 to deliver a total of 10,000 new social housing units.

The Government will also provide an extra €30m for homeless services, whilst a further €60m will be given to fund emergency accommodations for struggling families.

Meanwhile a total of €121m will be provided Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), which is designed to create over 16,000 tenancies in 2019.
